Having adopted Imagineering as one of his chosen charities in his mayoral year, Councillor Illingworth took the opportunity to visit as many of the Imagineering Clubs operating in Kenilworth as possible including Park Hill Junior School, where he was also taken on a tour of the school. Councillor Illingworth said: “I was delighted to visit the Imagineering Club and admired the enthusiasm of the children there……the children were so lively and enthusiastic.” The Year 6 children who attend the Imagineering Club under the expert guidance from National Grid employees, Richard Lamb and Marta Wypch were making balloon-powered cars. “All the children who attend Imagineering really enjoy the projects that they do and by the excitement and enthusiasm that is shown when I visit the club, I know that we will have some budding engineers in years to come!”
Now approaching the end of his year in office, Councillor Illingworth held a reception at Kenilworth Castle in celebration of engineering and technology in the town. He took the opportunity to present Bob Shanks, Imagineering Chairman, with a cheque for monies raised for Imagineering during his year in office. Returning the gesture, Bob presented Councillor Illingworth and his wife Joanna with two engraved crystal glasses.
